Blaze a Trail

Begin your day with a hike through the Alaskan Wilderness on a guided or unguided tour! With over 25 miles of park trails, there’s plenty of ground to cover. We recommend booking the Glacier Lake Family Hike. This easy, popular 3.2-mile hike departs the Homer spit at 11:30 am and returns back around 5 pm, just in time for dinner.

Don’t feel like packing your own gear? Local outfitter, Kachemak Gear Shack, has you covered!

Meet Some Furry Friends

While you’re on your tour, see if you can spot some of our animal friends along the trail. Featured wildlife in the park includes black and grizzly bears, seals and sea otters, porpoises and whales, and eagles and puffins. We always recommend bringing a camera to capture these Alaskan critters. Even an amateur photographer can get an award-winning shot! Follow us on Facebook to see some of our favorites.

Chill Out

The Family Hike is perfect for glacier enthusiasts. Hikers will see plenty of these natural phenomena during their trek. Many brave visitors choose to swim in the ice-cold water to retrieve a piece of these frozen giants. Make sure to pack a dry change of clothes for the rest of the journey! The water can be quite cold, ranging from 32.7°F / 0.4°C (in the colder months) to 54.3°F / 12.4°C (in the warmer months).

Grab a Bite

After all of that sightseeing, you’ll work up quite the appetite! Once you’re back in town, grab dinner at a local favorite, Little Mermaid. This farm-to-table restaurant offers you tastes of the land and sea with local ingredients and fresh catches daily. We recommend making a reservation to secure your seat at the table. The menu is ever-changing, but restaurant-goers rave about the Daily Catch, the Stone Bowl, and the Fish Chowder!
